Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital (BTCH) affiliated to Tsinghua University is a non-profit comprehensive public institution jointly managed by both the Beijing Municipal Administration of Hospitals and Tsinghua University. During its construction, the hospital received a generous donation from the Formosa Plastics Group and Taiwan Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. The hospital is located in Tiantongyuan, Changping District in Beijing, and it officially opened on November 28th, 2014 with 1,000 beds available during the first stage of construction.The hospital became a designated National Medical Insurance hospital in November, 2015, and has been able to directly reimburse medical expenses remotely since June, 2017. The second stage of construction officially began on 30th December, 2019 with an additional 500 beds planned.On November 25, 2021, the hospital officially became an A-class designated medical institution of the city’s basic medical insurance, and medical insurance personnel in Beijing can make settlements in realtime without choosing a designated medical institution.

As the Doctor of Clinical Medicine (MD and PhD) degree authorization point of Tsinghua University, the hospital has successively launched the training programs for full-time professional master of clinical medicine, master of a combination of engineering with medicine, an eight-year program of outstanding physician and scientist, the outstanding clinician scholar program (4+4), full-time and part-time professional doctoral students of clinical medicine, etc. The hospital has 15 training bases for resident doctors and specialists certified by local issuing authorities. It is the training base for general Surgeons of the Royal College of Surgery, Edinburgh. The Hepatobiliary Surgery Dept. is the International Clinical Specialist Fellowship Training Center. Neurosurgery is the University of Washington neurosurgery training site. Urology has become the World Endourology Society Fellowship training base and is also approved as the European Urology Society "Set up" urology endoscopic surgery standardized training project. In December 2018, the hospital was approved as the first batch of the National Clinical Teaching and Training Demonstration Center.

Supported by the strength in science and technology advantages offered by Tsinghua University, BTCH takes solving clinical problems and meeting social health needs as its engine, and takes the combination of engineering with medicine as the breakthrough point to establish a health technology innovation system driven by clinical problems. BTCH is also the National drug and medical deviceclinical trial institution. In November 2021, BTCH was approved as the Beijing Engineering Research Center for Key Technologies of Smart Health Consortium. In September 2022, the Institute of Organ Transplantation and Bionic Medicine of Tsinghua University was established based on the hospital.

Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital has also established a complete medical social work system based on the model of Taiwan Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, with volunteers who provide warm service for patients. The hospital has founded the Beijing Tsinghua Changgung HospitalDevelopment Charity Fund and Social Service Charity Fund to develop clinical medicine and help patients in need. In response to the Healthy China strategy, BTCH holds more than one hundred public lectures and free medical consultations each year. Since 2015, BTCH has taken an active part in medical poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, sent medical practitioners to rural areas and carried out precision medical assistance. Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Telemedicine System with independent intellectual property rights was launched in September, 2017 to carry out online academic exchanges and remote consultation services.
